Rendezvous Charcoal Ribs! THE BEST MEMPHIS BBQ!

Rendezvous is a BBQ restaurant in Memphis TN; a place known for their BBQ.  I've seen Rendezvous BBQ featured on the Food Network, and I couldn't wait to try this food in person.  Hungover, and starving our Memphis in May group headed to Rendezvous during a Tornado to try this famous BBQ! The restaurant itself has been around for 60+ years, and is located in a back alley in downtown Memphis.  The smell from the smoked meat fills the alley with wonderful smells of perfectly cooked beef and pork.  The inside of Rendezvous is rich with the restaurants history, with old hardwood floors, and bars.  The walls are decorated with pictures from opening to today, with odd assortments from swords and guns, to maps and records.

I ordered a combo plate with dry rubbed pork ribs, and shredded pork shoulder (AKA Boston Butt), and a side of baked beans, and cole slaw.  As a meat smoker myself, I have high expectations for BBQ, and I am normally let down.  Not this time.  The ribs and shoulder were wonderfully cooked, and had a beautiful pink smoked meat that wasn't overwhelming, but perfect.  The BBQ sauce was a perfect blend of spicy and sweet, and the meat so tender.  Mary got the Beef tenderloin which was the best I have ever had BY FAR!  The sides were perfect as well.  The baked beans seem to have been smoked with the meet, to allow any drippings to marinate in the beans themselves.  In Memphis (a place famous for BBQ) your BBQ has to be damned good to stand out from the  competition, and Rendezvous does it perfectly!
